Style: Doppelbock
ABV: 7.6%
Origin: München, Germany
Pours a dark copper color when held to the light with a tan head that dissipates quickly into a sticky lace. Smells of caramel, toasted malt and some faint alcohol fumes. Big, viscous body with light carbonation. Taste of toasted, bready malt, caramel and a grainy cereal-like flavor. A light dose of alcohol and hop flavor in the finish. Not as sweet as a Paulaner Salvator and not as hoppy as Ayinger Celebrator; somewhere in between.
While this doppelbock may not rank up there with some of the more pricey doppelbocks, it is a good, solid doppelbock at a great price. Prices in my area are generally $1.69 to $1.89 per single 11.2 oz. bottle and usually only $8.99 for a six-pack.
