Aass - Bock
Aass - Bock
Style: German Bock
ABV: 6.5%
Origin: Drammen, Norway
“Aass beers are a true delight and the label’s claim that their bock is one of the world’s greatest beers is no exaggeration at all. Lagered for an astonishing six months (two to three times the aging given to most lagers), Aass Bock is wonderfully complex and delicious.
Aass Bock pours a deep, ruby red color with a thick, creamy head and a rich malty nose. Upon sipping, the first thing about this beer that strikes you is the thick, creamy mouthfeel packed with luxurious, intense, slightly-nutty, sweet malt flavor and hints of chocolate, coffee and subtle molasses. The finish is sweet with no hop presence, but a hint of alcohol warmth. Alcohol is 6.5% by volume. This is an excellent after-dinner drink.” - Bru Guru

HaandBryggeriet - Norwegian Wood
HaandBryggeriet - Norwegian Wood
Style: Smoked Beer
ABV: 6.5%
Origin: Drammen, Norway
Norwegian Wood is our recreation of the most traditional Norwegian beer of all. Once every farm was required to brew its own ale (and many still do), and all of that ale had a natural smoky taste from kilning the malt over open fire, and most of it was spiced with juniper twigs and berries.
Norwegian Wood is brewed all the time. (if the juniper bushes aren't covered in deep snow)
Serving temp: cellar cold 8-10C or 46-50F
Goes well with smoked or cured meat, serrano ham, cured sausage, roasted pork, etc.
Made from smoked malt, munich malt, crystal and chocolate malt.

HaandBryggeriet - Odin's Tipple
HaandBryggeriet - Odin's Tipple
Style: Russian Imperial Stout
ABV: 11.0%
Origin: Drammen, Norway
This beer is as black as any stout you'll ever see, absolutely no light can get through this one. It also has one of the darkest heads you'll ever see! But, it doesn't last long. The carbonation is quite low, requiring a lot of swirling to revive the head.
Odin's Tipple has a nose-full of dark chocolate malts up front. It's a hugely impressive nose with every element I look for in a stout and more. Not only the chocolate malts, but also some spices, smokiness and sweet caramel aromas.
This is a seriously good beer! At first the malts just blast your taste buds with a huge hit of chocolaty smokiness. As the beer warms, caramel and licorice flavors become more prominent, as do some spices and dark fruit flavors. The texture is quite light bodied with a bit of a boozy aftertaste in the finish.
Text from the HaandBryggeriet website:
Odin, the cheif god of Norse mythology, was a forceful but complicated being of many moods - the symboly of battle, victory and death, but also of wisdom, poetry and prophecy. With this hearty, complex ale, HaandBryggeriet imagine Odin in later years, when his victories on the battlefield were but shadowy memories, his reflections tended toward loftier themes such as life's meaning and his drink would have been a deep, dark and contemplative one.
Odin's Tipple is an Imperial Stout with lots of chocolate and crystal malt. It's the malt that contributes the the flavor; no coffee added. It also contains muscovado sugar. Fermented with Belgian yeast. Suggested serving temp: 10-12°C or 50-55°F

Nøgne Ø - Imperial India Pale Ale
Nøgne Ø - Imperial India Pale Ale
Style: Imperial IPA
ABV: 10%
Origin: Grimstad, Norway
From the website:
When Nøgne Ø decided to make its 500thbatch of beer, it was quickly established that the key numbers would be 5 malts, 5 hops, 10% alcohol and 100 IBUs. The result is an incredibly rich and hoppy Imperial IPA. Malty enough to be almost a barley wine, but intensely fruity, mainly because it is dry hopped with generous amounts of Nelson Sauvin hops from New Zealand.Ingredients: Malted barley, malted wheat, malted rye, malted oats, Chinook, Simcoe, Pacific Gem, Centenneal and Nelson Sauvin hops, English ale yeast and our local Grimstad water.
About the brewery:
Nøgne Ø is Norway's leading and largest supplier of bottle conditioned ale! The name Nøgne Ø means "naked island", a poetic term used by Henrik Ibsen to describe any of the countless stark, barren outcroppings that are visible in the rough sea off Norway's southern coast. We think the name also gives a symbolic picture of what the two Norwegian home brewers did early 2002, when they decided to found a new brewery. Their urge to share their passion of good beer was unbearable. Their vision was to bring diversity and innovation into commercial brewing of real ale. The result – Nøgne Ø.
Nøgne Ø's subtitle - "The Uncompromising Brewery" is a plain statement of our mission to craft ale of highest quality, personality and individuality. The alchemists realized that they could only create gold from gold – so have we. Our gold is Maris Otter; Cascade, Centenneal, Chinook and Columbus. We think Maris Otter is the best malt obtainable, hand malted barley in the traditional manner in the UK. The big C’s are full flavored hops, grown in the USA. We only use ingredients of highest quality in order to make beers of uncompromising quality.
Nøgne Ø has grown from a 300 hl production in 2003 to an estimated 3500 hl production in 2010. We make more than 20 different styles of ales, and we have an increasing export. We do not aim to become much bigger, but we always focus on being better!

Nøgne Ø - Underlig Jul
Nøgne Ø - Underlig Jul
Style: Herbed/Spiced Beer
ABV: 6.5%
Origin: Grimstad, Norway
From the Nøgne Ø website:
The name of this beer is "Peculiar Christmas" in English. This spiced Christmas ale is a strange, and indeed, a fusion beer. We have gathered inspiration from the Norwegian drink “gløgg”, and as such this is quite an uncompromising brew. Often served with traditional Finnish dishes like “goro” and “fattigmann.” Recommended serving temperature 10°C/50°F, but feel free to try at higher temperatures.
Ingredients: Maris Otter, Munich, caramel, and chocolate malt; Columbus and Cascade hops; 5 different spices, English ale yeast, and our local Grimstad water.
Style description for Herbed/Spiced Beer:
This style is very broad and includes any beers that are specially herbed and/or spiced, like; Fall pumpkin beers, Christmas beers with nutmeg and cinnamon and ginger beers. This category also includes ancient Scottish ales that are flavored with heather flowers or spruce needles. Some brewers will throw just about anything into the brew kettle; hot peppers, hemp and ginseng. Keep an open mind when you are trying some spiced beers, as many brewers are continually expanding the limits of what beer is.
