Zagorka - Original
Zagorka - Original
Style: Euro Pale Lager
ABV: 5.0%
Origin: Stara Zagora, Bulgaria
Appearance: Pale straw-yellow with tons of carbonation. Head is only 1/16th of an inch or so and was gone in seconds.
Smell: Not much scent at all, so I re-poured into a snifter. Now I'm getting a grassy, wet-hay smell. If the odor was strong, it would probably be offensive, but it's just enough to be intereseting.
Taste: A light bitter taste up front, then a strong sting from the carbonation interrupts most signals from the tastebuds. Finishes with a strong dose of thick, malty flavor. As the aftertaste lingers, it becomes slightly sour.
Mouthfeel: Carbonation is a little too strong in the mouth and going down the throat. A slightly oily feel is left after swallowing.
Overall: Not a great brew, but interestingly different. I think this is one I'll have to try again with an open mind and a clean palate. East-European lagers are still new to me and may take a bit of acclimation.
These were much more interesting than the beer.
